TÁCHIRA

a region of challenges

and opportunities

Táchira pulses with the energy of those who arrive and those who leave, weaving a dynamic and diverse identity. Here, cultures blend, stories intertwine, and opportunities multiply. Yet, in the midst of this vibrant movement, young people are often left behind—without reliable information, without access to sexual and reproductive health services, and facing social norms that dictate how they should be, act, and love.

At Médicos del Mundo, we immerse ourselves in this Andean landscape, working among the mountains and rural communities to ensure that no young person is left behind. We want every young person and adolescent to have the power to make informed choices about their bodies, their pleasure, their relationships, and their life paths. That’s why we carry out activities in schools, communities, and safe spaces throughout Táchira—offering clear, judgment-free, and taboo-free information about health, gender, emotions, and rights.

We promote comprehensive sexual education that goes far beyond prevention. It opens up conversations about desire, consent, equality, respect, and the freedom to be who you are. We encourage critical thinking so that young people can question gender roles, stereotypes, and normalized violence—and build new, healthier ways of relating to each other.

We also lead campaigns to prevent gender-based violence, especially sexual violence, by promoting non-violent, informed masculinities—free from the harmful grip of machismo. We stand for diversity, because we know there’s no single way to be young or to experience sexuality.

Our work in Táchira is grounded in a deep conviction: when young people have access to information, safe spaces, and support networks, they not only exercise their right to self-care—they become agents of change in their communities.

Because when a young person becomes empowered, they spark a chain of care that protects, includes, and reimagines the world.

Real stories and facts that bust myths

What no one tells you

(but you should know)

Does using a condom reduce pleasure? Is talking about sex the same as encouraging it? Is diversity “just a trend”? Enough with the myths. Here you’ll find short, direct, no-filter videos where young people like you share what they’ve learned, what they used to think, and what they know now.

Myths and legends about “it”

Clear language, real stories, and facts that make you think. Because knowledge is power—and sharing it is an act of rebellion against misinformation.

"When a young person is empowered, they don't just take care of themselves; they ignite a chain of change that transforms entire communities."
